Big closing meeting of the Fifth Internationalist Conference

With the premises of the Federación de Box completely filled, the
closing ceremony of the Fifth Internationalist Conference of the
Fracción Trotskista - Cuarta Internacional took place.
The speakers inlcuded: Jimena Mendoza from the LTS of México,
Brayan Brenes of the Liga de la Revolución Socialista of Costa Rica,
Simone from LER-QI of Brazil, Elio Aduviri (workers’ representative
from the El Alto Airport) of the LOR-CI of Bolivia, Juan Valenzuela
from Clase contra Clase of Chile, Ángel Arias from the LTS of
Venezuela, Santiago Lupe from Clase contra Clase of the Spanish
State, Antje (a militant of the Fracción Trotskista in Germany),
Stephane from the Groupe Communiste Révolutionnaire
Internationaliste of France, and José Montes and Christian Castillo
of the PTS.
The main conclusions of the Fifth Conference were announced during
the ceremony, both regarding the depth of the international
financial crisis and the international situation of imperialism, and
the situation of each country, government policies and the struggle
of the workers and oppressed peoples. The speakers from Venezuela,
Bolivia and Argentina indicated that the policies of the "national
and popular" governments have ended up in powerlessness with the
strengthening of right-wing alternatives with broad influence in
middle-class sectors, and that the political independence of the
workers is needed to forge a consistent workers’, peasants’ and
popular alliance to confront imperialism, the landowners and the big
employers.
During the ceremony, the campaigns were announced that the FT will
launch against the military mission of the armed forces of Brazil,
Argentina and other Latin American countries in Haiti, that are the
rear guard of the US invasion in Iraq; against the attacks and
repressive measures directed at immigrants in Europe; in defense of
workers’ management of Zanon, threatened once again; and for the
reconstruction of the Fourth International (by insisting on the
appeal to the LIT, headed by the PSTU of Brazil, and to the CRCI,
promoted by the PO of Argentina, to boost joint actions and open
the discussion of the building of a revolutionary international).
In their turn, the incorporation of the LRS of Costa Rica as the
full section of the FT in that Central American country, and of the
Groupe CRI as the sympathizing section of the FT-CI in France, were
announced.
Soon the speeches, photographs and videos of the ceremony, as well
as the complete resolutions of the Fifth Conference, will be
published in these pages.
