(Buenos Aires, 3/11/09). Workers at the Kraft-Terrabusi factory in Buenos Aires have elected List 1, the slate of candidates led by Javier “Poke” Hermosilla, to the Shop Stewards’ Commission. In spite of manoeuvres by the company and the trade union bureaucracy, and the repressive situation inside the factory, a large turnout of more than 1,700 workers participated in today’s election. List 1 was composed of members of the food industry rank-and-file trade union grouping called “Desde Abajo” (“From Below”) along with other independent candidates, and obtained 676 votes. Second, with 660 votes, was List 2 led by Ramon Bogado. Last, with only 390 votes, was List 3, the slate promoted by Rodolfo Daer, the General Secretary of the STIA food industry union, which was also supported by the bosses. List 1 obtained 75% of the votes of the night shift, the shift that has suffered the highest number of sackings and suspensions, and for which Hermosilla is a delegate.
The winning list have announced that they are going to push forward the immediate reorganisation of the system of shop stewards, and have made a special call to the brothers and sisters in List 2 to join them in this task, as a part of the struggle for the reinstatement of the 53 workers who remain sacked and the realisation of all the demands of the Kraft workers.
