29.04.2015 As the official start of the election campaign on April 5 shows, the "political class" is very worried about achieving a high participation, that will guarantee some of the choices under way, and that will serve to re-legitimize the institutions.
20.03.2015 On March 17, general elections took place in Israel. Despite the fact that a more even result was predicted, with the nearly final count, Benjamin Netanyahu is getting a clear victory over his main rival, the Labor Party's Isaac Herzog.
13.03.2015 The statement of the US President, Barack Obama, that Venezuela is a "threat to the safety of the United States," is a leap in the aggressive actions by imperialism against the Latin American country.
10.02.2015 Greece is a supreme example of the accumulated effects of the world economic crisis. As the editorial writer of the Financial Times, Martin Wolf, indicates, unemployment has reached 26%, and the GDP is also 26% below its peak before the crisis of 2008. The expenditure of Greek society on goods and services has shrunk by at least an accumulated 40%. According to Paul Krugman, the "domestic devaluation" that took place in the Hellenic country, as a result of the fall in wages, and therefore, of the unit labor costs, reaches 16%.
20.01.2015 The heads of state of Germany (Angela Merkel), the United Kingdom (David Cameron), Spain (Mariano Rajoy), and Italy (Matteo Renzi) confirmed their participation this Sunday in the demonstration called by Hollande's government, alongside of all the parties of the French regime, after the attack against the satirical weekly publication, "Charlie Hebdo."
02.12.2014 Last Tuesday, November 18, two Palestinians armed with a knife and a pistol entered a Jerusalem synagogue during morning prayers and killed 4 Israeli Jews, while 5 others were wounded. The Israeli police quickly took over the place and killed the two attackers.
25.11.2014 The November 4 midterm elections gave the Republicans an even more overwhelming victory than the opinion polls predicted. The Republican Party increased its power in the House of Representatives, got the majority in the Senate and kept several governorships. It even managed to re-elect the Governor of Wisconsin, Scott Walker, who imposed profoundly anti-worker and anti-union legislation.
20.11.2014 On the night of October 25-26, a young man, 21 years old, an environmental activist, Rémi Fraisse, was murdered by the French police during a protest against the construction of a dam in the south of France. While the weak government of François Hollande was seeking to make its "authority" worth something, this crime could cause quite the opposite. For the time being, only the great "respect for the republican institutions" of reformist parties and organizations and even of groups of the "far left," allows the crisis not to intensify and turn into a massive popular mobilization.
31.10.2014 Jerusalem has turned into one of the key settings of the conflict between Israelis and Palestinians. The summary execution of a young Palestinian and the subsequent decision of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, to close access to the Esplanade of the Mosques, are only the most recent expressions from an extensive history of violence and oppression by the State of Israel. During the week that is coming to an end, Jerusalem was a setting of an escalation of tensions and confrontations.
15.10.2014 The execution of 22 alleged criminals in Tlataya, Mexico State, at the hands of the army last June and the massacre of student teachers in Iguala, Guerrero, have opened up an institutional crisis in Mexico. This, in a context of the rise of the impunity with which the groups of drug traffickers and hired killers, that fill the streets with corpses, are acting, where the ungovernable nature is obvious.
15.10.2014 At times when the youth of Hong Kong have rebelled, when the echo of this movement can resound in other hot areas of the periphery of China like Xianjiang, and in the context of the constant increase of the workers' struggles, an internal debate within the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) is exploding publicly days before a key meeting.
24.08.2014 The murder of the young African-American Michael Brown, at the hands of the Ferguson city police, less than two weeks ago, has again ignited anger in the US against racial oppression, which has caused thousands to get mobilized throughout the country.
The response to the anger unleashed by the death of this young man, who was unarmed, has been repression. As time passes, more information about his death and the increasingly brutal police violence is being made known.
20.08.2014 After 10 days of a truce during which no agreement for a ceasefire was reached, the State of Israel again bombed the Gaza Strip from Tuesday, August 19. Taking as an excuse the launching by Hamas of 3 missiles that fell on Israeli territory without causing victims or material damages, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's Zionist government ordered the resumption of the military offensive. More than 80 aerial attacks were carried out, with a toll of almost 30 Palestinians dead and dozens of wounded. The main target of the Zionist army was the chief of the military wing of Hamas, Mohamed Deif, who directs the al-Qassam Brigades. For this, the Zionist army launched five missiles on his home, killing his wife and eight-month old son. The fate of Deif, who was living in hiding, is still unknown.
18.08.2014 While President Obama is enjoying his vacation, US airplanes and drones are again dropping tons of bombs on Iraq. This new military venture of the United States in the Middle East began on Friday, August 8 and has as an objective: stopping the advance of the so-called Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant, or just Islamic State, that, since June, has occupied about one third of the territory of Syria and a fourth of that of Iraq.
According to Obama, what motivates these bombings is protecting Christian groups and those of the Yazidi minority (a group of the population that professes a different religion), savagely persecuted by the ISIL, this new "Frankenstein", that emerged from a detachment of the Al Qaeda network during the US occupation of Iraq.
15.08.2014 After 4 days of protests, dozens of arrests and two people wounded by the police (one of them in critical condition), anger continues on the streets of Ferguson, a small place in the state of Missouri. "No justice, no peace," "Hands up, don't shoot," "Where is Mike? Everywhere!" are some of the slogans of the mobilizations and protests unleashed by the murder of Mike Brown.
On Saturday, August 9, in the city of Ferguson (Missouri, US), a cop murdered the African American teenager Mike Brown, 18 years old. The police stated at the beginning that Brown had attacked the police officer, but all the witnesses claim that the young man was unarmed, and they shot him when he had his hands in the air (an obvious sign to show that one is unarmed). Mike had recently finished high school and was getting ready to enter university the following Monday.
07.08.2014 "Mission accomplished," said Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, after announcing the withdrawal of Israeli troops from the Gaza Strip. It was almost 30 days of a military offensive that left a toll of 1900 dead, more than half, civilians, among whom are numbered more than 400 children, and 9,500 wounded (of whom, 2,500 are children), more than 10,000 dwellings destroyed, as well as basic infrastructure, like the only electrical power station, schools, hospitals (30% of which had to close because of the damages they experienced) and mosques.
04.08.2014 The title refers to a common belief used to justify the eternal conflict between Israelis and Palestinians and the current offensive in Gaza. But that supposed ontology of hatred is false. Arabs and Jews lived together for centuries under Moorish control of Andaluz in the Spanish empire.
29.07.2014 The shooting down of the Malaysia Airlines Flight 17 airplane, that caused the death of its 298 passengers, while it was flying over the eastern area of the Ukraine, has touched world public opinion and caused a jump in the political crisis that this East European country has been going through for more than seven months, and that has big geopolitical implications as one of the fronts of the disputes between the imperialist powers (the US and the EU) and Russia.
25.07.2014 The number of those dead and wounded because of the bombings and the military land offensive of the State of Israel continues to increase significantly. There are no words to describe the atrocities that the Zionist Army is committing; they have bombed hospitals, schools, mosques and even a group of children that were playing on a beach. They have already murdered more than 700 Palestinians; they have wounded another 4,000, and there are tens of thousands of refugees. 70% of the dead are civilians and more than 20%, children. After 16 days of massive bombing and 6 days of an invasion by land, Israel has caused a huge humanitarian crisis, and its Prime Minister, the Zionist Benjamin Netanyahu, has declared, with complete impunity, that the operation "will continue until it achieves all the objectives".
18.07.2014 The conflict between Israelis and Palestinians seems to be doomed to be eternal. The conclusion is deduced from the experience of numerous failed attempts at negotiation, during the 66 years of existence of the State of Israel.
14.07.2014 For several months, the opposition to Hollande's government was on the right, with the reactionary mobilizations against marriage equality and the election results of the extreme right, which stood out in the French political landscape.
13.07.2014 From the early morning of Monday, July 7, the State of Israel launched a military offensive called "Protective Edge" on the Gaza Strip, consisting of the massive bombing of this densely populated Palestinian territory and threatening a ground attack.
19.06.2014 In Iraq, civil war has again broken out between Sunnis and Shiites, the two big groups into which the Muslim world is divided. After several days of bloody fighting, there are now hundreds of dead and wounded and tens of thousands displaced. The northern part of the country has been under the control of the Sunni insurgents, that are showing signs of great cruelty and savagery, in order to terrorize the population. The Iraqi army, trained for years by the US, has seemed totally powerless to stop the militias of the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS), that already controls key cities like Mosul, the second-largest city of Iraq,Tikrit, Kirkuk, as well as the area of Tel Afar, bordering Syria.
12.06.2014 After the end of the five-day strike of the São Paulo subway workers, from La Verdad Obrera we interviewed Marília Rocha, an activist of the great strike and a militant of the LER-QI (a fraternal group of the PTS) and one the 42 workers laid off by the company with support from the Governor of São Paulo, Geraldo Alckmin.
02.06.2014 A month before the beginning of the World Cup, publicity on television is trying to show the "Brazil of soccer," and the government is making an effort to sell the image of a World Cup that is good for the people.
20.05.2014 On Tuesday, May 13, more than 250 miners died in Soma, Turkey, in a mine explosion; several dozen more were seriously injured. Hundreds of workers continue to be trapped in a mine 400 meters underground, with their lives endangered.
13.05.2014 For the last 3 months the postal workers of the Paris Arrondissement 92 have been carrying out a hard struggle against the layoffs of their comrades in a precarious situation. It began in just one Post Office and spread to others, despite the indifference of the union leaderships. As days passed, the workers were also radicalizing their demands and are now raising the demand for the end of job uncertainly inside the Post Office.
04.05.2014 The national government seems to have a new slogan. In the middle of the serious crisis of the economy, expressed especially in severe inflation and scarcity, the government has accelerated a kind of "productive turn"
25.04.2014 The working women and men of Panrico and Coca Cola are leading the biggest strikes in Spain. The war cry of Coca Cola Fuenlabrada is "Neither closures nor layoffs," a program of struggle linked to the "Zero layoffs, zero wage cuts" of the strikers at Panrico. If it is a matter of coordinating or socializing the the struggles, these courageous working men and women are trailblazers.
09.04.2014 The National Assembly has approved the new Law on Foreign Investments
With talk about "keeping" the country's economy "going," defending "national sovereignty," that "we will never return to the past," and that the economic system of "socialist Cuba" will continue to be based on "ownership by all the people," Castro's bureaucracy has taken a serious step forward on the road of restoring capitalism.
09.04.2014 Massive assemblies of the main factories of the northern area have voted, by an extremely broad majority, to join the Thursday, April 10 national strike, in opposition to the decision of their pro-government unions, that supported the "Balcarce CGT."
25.03.2014 Almost a million and a half people completely filled the streets of the center of Madrid in the culmination of the Marches for Dignity that, for weeks, have been going all over highways, towns and cities of the entire state, being strengthened at each step by more female and male comrades.
20.03.2014 The dispute between the imperialist powers and Russia over defining the destiny of Ukraine, took a new jump with the annexation of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol – the base of the Russian Black Sea Fleet – to the Russian Federation, after 97% of the population of this strategic peninsula, with a Russian-speaking majority, an autonomous Republic of Ukraine since 1954, voted to return to Russia.
